Quick answer

Do all brands use the same radar and camera calibration procedure?

No. Sensor layouts, diagnostic functions, targets and aiming methods vary by manufacturer, model, year and installed equipment. A windscreen recognition camera is also different from a parking camera. Confirm the exact vehicle and supported procedure before booking; Sri Kuching’s published ADAS case evidence here covers Toyota vehicles.

Know which sensor and assistance function are involved

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Depending on the vehicle, radar sensors, recognition cameras, electronic modules and communication networks provide information for adaptive cruise control, collision warnings, lane assistance and surrounding-traffic monitoring.

These functions do not all use the same sensor. The illustration shows general locations to help describe a concern; it is not a model-specific installation drawing or a calibration target. Actual positions and equipment vary.

Front millimetre-wave radar

Often positioned around the front grille, emblem or bumper, radar supplies distance and movement information for supported cruise-control and collision-assistance functions. Its bracket, aiming reference and surrounding transmission area matter. Some vehicle variants use different arrangements or do not have a separate front radar.

Front recognition camera

Usually mounted near the rear-view mirror inside the windscreen, this camera recognises visual information such as lane markings and signs where the system supports those functions. Windscreen or camera work can create aiming requirements. This is different from a reversing camera or a camera used to compose a 360-degree parking view.

Rear side radar and ultrasonic parking sensors

Radar near the rear corners can support blind spot or lane-change monitoring and rear cross-traffic functions. Ultrasonic parking sensors detect nearby obstacles at low speed and use different hardware. A parking-assist communication fault should not automatically be treated as radar misalignment.

  1. Front radar

Usually around the front grille or bumper. Provides distance and motion information for equipped assistance systems.

  2. Front recognition camera

Usually near the rear-view mirror inside the windscreen. Reads visual information such as lane markings.

  3. Rear side radar

Usually behind the rear bumper corners. Supports blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic functions where fitted.

  4. Parking sonar

Ultrasonic sensors in equipped bumpers detect nearby obstacles. These are different from radar and cameras.

Toyota: PCS, radar cruise control, front camera and BSM

Equipped Toyota models can combine front radar and camera information for Toyota Safety Sense functions, with rear radar supporting BSM and RCTA where fitted. Toyota Safety Sense generations and market specifications differ, so a feature name alone does not identify the calibration method.

Sri Kuching’s published ADAS records cover Alphard AGH30 and AGH40 front radar calibration, Vellfire BSM module replacement and calibration, and Harrier front radar plus rear BSM adjustment. These are the photographic repair examples used in this guide collection.

The Toyota workshop photographs below show front and rear radar installations. Follow the case links to see the recorded diagnosis, work and verification for each vehicle.

Honda Sensing: identify the camera and radar fitted to the model

Honda Sensing-equipped vehicles can provide Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist and Road Departure Mitigation, depending on specification. Relevant Civic, Accord, CR-V and HR-V variants may use a windscreen camera, radar or a different sensor combination; the model and year matter.

Windscreen replacement is an important calibration enquiry when a front camera is fitted. Honda specifies camera aiming after glass replacement on relevant models. Camera removal, mounting work and front radar repairs can also require model-specific inspection or aiming.

ACC, LKAS or CMBS warnings should be diagnosed before parts are selected. Share the exact Honda model, year, warning and repair history with Sri Kuching so the team can confirm whether the required diagnostic and calibration procedure is supported before booking.

Audi: pre sense, ACC, front cameras and side assist

Audi assistance features can include pre sense, Adaptive Cruise Control, adaptive cruise assist, lane departure warning and side assist, depending on installed equipment. Selected A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7 and Q8 variants use relevant camera or radar systems, but equipment is not universal across those model names.

Front radar can support distance-control functions, while recognition cameras provide visual information. Additional radar sensors can support lane-change or rear traffic warnings. A warning naming a feature may therefore require checking more than one electronic module.

After bumper repairs, windscreen replacement, sensor removal or collision damage, check the applicable Audi repair information. An installation fault, a communication fault and an aiming requirement involve different work. Provide the exact model and any scan results when asking the workshop to confirm available support.

BMW: Driving Assistant, Active Cruise Control and KAFAS

BMW assistance packages can combine front cameras, radar and other sensors for functions such as Active Cruise Control, lane monitoring and collision warnings. KAFAS is a name used for camera-based driver-assistance systems on applicable BMW models; it does not establish that every BMW has the same camera or calibration routine.

Check calibration requirements following relevant windscreen or camera work, radar removal, bumper repairs or mounting damage. Some faults concern installation or aiming, while others require electrical, communication or component diagnosis before calibration is possible.

A restricted Driving Assistant message or unavailable cruise control needs system-specific diagnosis. Give Sri Kuching the model, year, fitted options where known and repair history so the team can confirm the required functions and equipment.

Porsche: ACC, Lane Change Assist and sensor transmission areas

Selected Cayenne, Macan, Panamera, Taycan and 911 variants can have radar or camera assistance functions such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Assist and Lane Keeping Assist. The installed equipment and model-specific repair instructions determine the diagnostic and calibration requirements.

Radar depends on compatible surrounding body surfaces as well as correct sensor positioning. Porsche specifies restrictions for certain repairs, painting and wrapping in radar transmission areas. The relevant instructions should be checked before altering or refinishing those areas rather than assuming a successful aiming routine makes every bumper finish suitable.

Bumper repairs, radar removal, nearby structural work or applicable windscreen and camera repairs warrant a requirements check. Contact Sri Kuching with the exact vehicle and symptoms to confirm support.

Confirm model-specific support before arranging the work in KL

A brand name or a generic diagnostic connection does not confirm support for every calibration routine. The workshop needs the make, model, production year, fitted assistance equipment, exact warnings and details of previous repairs. For imported vehicles, market specification can also help identify the correct procedure.

Sri Kuching Car Audio & Air Cond Service Centre is in Taman Mastiara, Kuala Lumpur. Its published Toyota cases demonstrate front radar calibration, rear BSM adjustment, module replacement and verification. Owners of other makes can discuss their symptoms and confirm available model-specific inspection or calibration before the job is booked.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Honda need camera calibration after windscreen replacement?

Honda specifies camera aiming after windscreen replacement on relevant camera-equipped models. Confirm the exact model, fitted system and service procedure, and check that the workshop supports the required calibration before booking.

Can Audi, BMW and Porsche radar sensors be calibrated?

These manufacturers specify diagnostic and calibration procedures for supported radar and camera systems. The exact vehicle, equipment and required procedure must be identified. Contact Sri Kuching to confirm model-specific support; the published ADAS case records in these guides document Toyota work.

Is a front recognition camera the same as a 360-degree parking camera?

No. A front recognition camera supplies road and lane information for supported driver-assistance functions. Reversing and surround-view cameras provide parking views and have separate installation and calibration requirements.

Can every ADAS-equipped model use the same calibration target?

No. Targets, reflectors, positioning, diagnostic functions and static or dynamic requirements vary by vehicle. The manufacturer’s procedure for the exact installed system determines the equipment and preparation.
